Why I built this
I taught from 1989 until 2021. Near the end, I told my principal that coming to work felt like being a vegan turning up for a shift at a burger place. She thought I was joking.
Getting through a school day got harder, and my good humour started turning into sarcasm and bitterness. On the surface it may have looked like I didn't care. But I cared enormously, and holding that in was exhausting.
I left at 52, with no guarantee my next career would work. Some days it's still uncertain. Knowing what I know now, I'd still choose to leave. 100%.
